Parking at Düsseldorf Airport
Düsseldorf Airport is located by the German city of Düsseldorf. If you drive to the airport from the Netherlands, your car has to stay somewhere for a few days or weeks. On this page you can read which ways of parking you may come across at Düsseldorf, what the airport itself offers and what to look at before you choose a space.
Parking via the airport
According to the official Düsseldorf Airport website you will find an overview of all official parking spaces there. The airport mentions, among other things, online parking discounts, a Pick-Up & Drop-Off ticket for a quick stop and parking with licence plate recognition, where the licence plate replaces the parking ticket. According to the airport you can book online, subject to availability for your dates. The airport's website also explains how to cancel a booking. The latest rates and terms can be found there.
Other types of parking
Besides what the airport itself offers, many airports also have shuttle parking or valet parking. In short, these are the types:
- Parking within walking distance: you leave the car close to the terminal and walk to the departure hall yourself.
- Shuttle parking: the car park is a little further away and a shuttle bus takes you to the terminal.
- Valet parking: a member of staff takes your car and key at the terminal and parks the car for you.
Which types are available for your travel dates is shown in the search results.
From the Netherlands to Düsseldorf
You drive across the border in your Dutch car. Take your vehicle registration document, driving licence and insurance details with you, and plan your route beforehand with a route planner that uses live traffic information. If you use parking with licence plate recognition, enter the plate exactly as it appears on your registration document. Terms and instructions may be in German. Read them in advance and keep your confirmation on your phone.
What to look at when choosing
- the total price for your whole trip, not just the price per day;
- the distance to the terminal and, with a shuttle, the transfer time and how often the bus runs;
- the cancellation terms, especially if your plans may change;
- whether you have to hand over your key and whether the car is parked indoors or outdoors;
- the address, the arrival instructions and what to do if your flight is delayed.
Plan ahead
During school holidays and around public holidays it can be busier. Because availability can differ per date, it pays to enter your travel dates early and to read the cancellation terms carefully.
